MTA Introduces New Online Trip Planner

Published by Jeff under Public Transportation

Why the MTA didn’t create something like this years ago baffles me, but the Maryland Transit Administration has finally got on board with the technological revolution.? In a partnership with Google Maps, the MTA has launched its new Online Trip Planner.? Finally, something that makes public transit perhaps a little easier.? It’s pretty simple, just type in where you are and where you want to go…the computer then tells you how to get there without a car, including how long you’ll have to walk before you get to the nearest bus stop or train station.?

? Check it out…it’s pretty neat, and you might find that a bus or train goes exactly where you need to go…or maybe not, but at least it’s fun to play around with.? Also, with $4 gas can you afford not to use this tool?? Follow the link below:

“Riptide by the Bay” Answer to Fells Point Quandary

Published by Jeff under Fells Point

Today I came across a quandary that I’ve often heard others speak about.? I was spending the day with my family around the harbor including my younger niece and nephew.? I wanted a good place to eat dinner, maybe some seafood, but didn’t want to go somewhere too touristy (that ruled out the inner harbor), nor somewhere too fancy (after all we were with the kids), nor somewhere too pubby (kids again).? The “no fancy” and “no pubby” pretty much ruled out most of the places in fells point.?

Thankfully, there was “Riptide by the Bay” which opened up just three weeks ago on Thames St.? Riptide has a small bar in front with tables in the back and a little bit of outside dining.? Clean and comfortable it was still casual and not too expensive.? Even though they’re working a few of the kinks out, the food was great!? Dishes range from burgers to crabcakes and fish.? They have been on a limited menu for the opening, but are rolling out the entire menu this week.?

For those of you facing that question – Where can I take my family and friends in Fells Point that is casual and reasonable but with good food? and Baltimore feel?? I would definitely recommend Riptide.? ? (1718 Thames St., 410-732-3474).

Restaurants

Published by Jeff under Restaurants

The tough economy doesn’t appear to be hurting Baltimorean’s appetite for good food.? Walking around Harbor East and Fells Point this evening, restaurants appeared to be doing pretty good business (for a Wednesday), even the more upscale restaurants like Charleston and Kali’s court.? There certainly a lot of people dining outside and enjoying the nice weather.

Incidentally, Elizabeth Large, of the Baltimore Sun, reported that a new restaurant has opened in Fells Point.? “Riptide by the Bay” will be a casual seafood restaurant (1718 Thames St., 410-732-3474).? Click here to read the article.

Also, “Feast” Restaurant will be opening this Friday the 13th? in the upscale 4 East Madison Boutique Hotel.? Feast will feature food with a french-Mediterranean flair.? Best of all, it’s BYOB with only a $5 corking fee.? Visit the website for more information and a menu… http://www.4eastmadisoninn.com/Dinner.html

Ritz-Carlton Development Article

There’s an interesting article on the MD Daily Record site about the Ritz-Carlton development adjacent to Federal Hill.

? “[Our residents] are very busy people,” said Gabe Pasquale, head of sales and marketing for the development. “They’re very active. They’re captains of industry and very engaged in their business. The concept here is anticipating their needs so you can simplify their lifestyle.”

Condos start at $1.3 million and peak at $5.5 million for one of three 5,000-square-foot penthouses, all of which have been sold, according to RexMidtown.

“We have sports figures, people of the arts, people who don’t want to be bothered taking care of themselves,” Rechler said. ”This is a product that Baltimore does not have.”

“Without Ritz-Carlton, without Silo Point, I’m not sure Harris Teeter would come,” Harrington said, referring to the Virginia-based grocer that recently announced it will expand into the Baltimore area. “That’s an upscale grocery. Why would they come if they didn’t think it was an upscale market?”
