An article in today’s Baltimore Business Journal outlines Struever bros. plans for a large development that includes a 38 story tower.? I’m not sure if this is completely new or a variation on the multiple plans we have seen in the past.? See past Port Covington posts.? It sounds like an ambitious project.? Apparently the review panel objects to the number of residential units and height of the tower in Struever’s plan… sounds familiar.

Why the MTA didn’t create something like this years ago baffles me, but the Maryland Transit Administration has finally got on board with the technological revolution.? In a partnership with Google Maps, the MTA has launched its new Online Trip Planner.? Finally, something that makes public transit perhaps a little easier.? It’s pretty simple, just type in where you are and where you want to go…the computer then tells you how to get there without a car, including how long you’ll have to walk before you get to the nearest bus stop or train station.?
? Check it out…it’s pretty neat, and you might find that a bus or train goes exactly where you need to go…or maybe not, but at least it’s fun to play around with.? Also, with $4 gas can you afford not to use this tool?? Follow the link below:

Today I came across a quandary that I’ve often heard others speak about.? I was spending the day with my family around the harbor including my younger niece and nephew.? I wanted a good place to eat dinner, maybe some seafood, but didn’t want to go somewhere too touristy (that ruled out the inner harbor), nor somewhere too fancy (after all we were with the kids), nor somewhere too pubby (kids again).? The “no fancy” and “no pubby” pretty much ruled out most of the places in fells point.?
Thankfully, there was “Riptide by the Bay” which opened up just three weeks ago on Thames St.? Riptide has a small bar in front with tables in the back and a little bit of outside dining.? Clean and comfortable it was still casual and not too expensive.? Even though they’re working a few of the kinks out, the food was great!? Dishes range from burgers to crabcakes and fish.? They have been on a limited menu for the opening, but are rolling out the entire menu this week.?
For those of you facing that question - Where can I take my family and friends in Fells Point that is casual and reasonable but with good food? and Baltimore feel?? I would definitely recommend Riptide.? ? (1718 Thames St., 410-732-3474).

The tough economy doesn’t appear to be hurting Baltimorean’s appetite for good food.? Walking around Harbor East and Fells Point this evening, restaurants appeared to be doing pretty good business (for a Wednesday), even the more upscale restaurants like Charleston and Kali’s court.? There certainly a lot of people dining outside and enjoying the nice weather.
Incidentally, Elizabeth Large, of the Baltimore Sun, reported that a new restaurant has opened in Fells Point.? “Riptide by the Bay” will be a casual seafood restaurant (1718 Thames St., 410-732-3474).? Click here to read the article.
Also, “Feast” Restaurant will be opening this Friday the 13th? in the upscale 4 East Madison Boutique Hotel.? Feast will feature food with a french-Mediterranean flair.? Best of all, it’s BYOB with only a $5 corking fee.? Visit the website for more information and a menu… http://www.4eastmadisoninn.com/Dinner.html
