Vernon are definitely safe neighborhoods and they're all close to Hopkins. And -- yes, I'm biased because I live here -- Patterson Park is even closer to Hopkins and is getting better all the time. New, young people are moving into the area, the neighborhood association is very active, and there are a number of good organizations doing community work in the area, most notably the Friends of Patterson Park and the Patterson Park CDC. Additionally, you can get a lot of house for great prices here. Give it five years -- Patterson Park will be one of the city's great neighborhoods. Canton, Fells Point and Mt. It's safe. It's got some decent restaurants which aren't as pricey as Canton. There's plenty of street parking. Close to Johns Hopkins University main campus. Worth a look! She said that workers typically park off site in the parking lots off of Fallsway in Jonestown and take shuttle buses to the hospital. Security at Hopkins Hospital is tight as a button. They essentially have a security guard on every corner. I haven't heard of any recent problems. I do notice a lot of doctors and nurses that live in my neighborhood - Canton, but I also know people who work at the hospital that live in Federal Hill or Harbor East. While it is a scary looking neighborhood because of the large number of homeless, it is as safe as Mount Vernon because you have BCPD HQ and Central Station right across the street. Just as safe as Canton with just as many younger people. It can be a bit rougher above Baltimore St but still nice. Its also cheaper and within walking distance to the campus (>1 mile). I'm guessing that most of those crimes constitute drug crimes or gun crimes. I'm also guessing that a large portion of victims of violent crime in general also have prior criminal records. I would suggest to the concerned mother, that as long as her daughter doesn't involve herself with local criminals, that she probably isn't at any greater risk of being a victim of a serious crime any more so than in another urban area.
