Well Manhattanites are sitting pretty compared to Londoners when it comes to shelling out lolly for real estate. By one account that I read recently, soon the AVERAGE house price in the U.K. will exceede $1M!!

Yup that's pretty common on high-end urban apartments. Just imagine how much Manhattanites waist in rent over a lifetime. Many end up renting for 10, 20, 30 years or longer.

On the other end though there are a lot of instances right now where it's cheaper to rent than own. For example: http://members.aol.com/lowman1411/.

Adam at Baltimore Housing Bubble wrote a good article on this. http://bubblemore.blogspot.com/search/label/Renting%20vs.%20Buying

Hum, they're asking significantly more in rent for a 2 bedroom apartment than we are currently paying in mortgage payments for a 4 bedroom, 2 car garage on a quarter acre detached house in Guilford! Plus we are building equity and our house has tripled in value from the time we bought it. I guess though that rents like that might be affordable to some of the staff at some of the professional schools at the U of M? I would love to know what restaurant is going in there. Whatever it is I hope that it's a good one because that area doesn't so far have any decent restaurants.
