Locust Point - Key Highway Loop Road Open

Published by Glen at 8:33 pm under Locust Point, Public Transportation

The long anticipated Key Highway extension (loop road) opened today.? And it looks like every employee at Tide Point is well aware of it.? As I came home tonight there was a steady flow of traffic coming out.? Cheers to a shorter commute for some and less neighborhood traffic for others. Sun article.

First thing first. The City of Baltimore and their many engineers need to figure out the timing of the lights. There is no reason for anyone to be waiting on E Key Highway at that red light on the corner of Key and Woodall for a minute (or what seems to be a minute!) at 8:50PM when there is no one around to even trigger a red light. I wonder if this is something Woodall Street wants since they have two entry points onto their street, why do they care if the rest of LP has to wait, never mind the fact that E. Key Highway is the only access point to Stevenson Street (and now they have to wait at a inopportune light just to get to their street). Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy about this road to alleviate traffic on Fort Ave, but the light is a little burdensome. I am also not very impressed w/ the streetscaping (there is none!) and the lovely chain barbed fence that now greets residents, business workers and visitors alike to the neighborhood.

The light timing is HORRIBLE! Coming into Tide Point from 95 would be fine (right turn)…but I’ll continue my fast route (on Fort Ave.) of all right turns to get 95 on my way home! I sat through 3 lights last night and almost missed the 4th! I’m already over it until it’s fixed. **They really should have made 2 left turn lanes.

Yup It’s set up really bad right now - I would guess that Domino Sugar has a lot of influence on the timing of that light. They may have even paid for it. It’s set up to ease the exiting of trucks from the plant. But it seems like the light should just be set to change when a truck is sitting on the weight sensor pads. If they did indeed install them at the entrance to the plant. Hopefully this gets resolved, or I will be forced to run that light regularly. They were also supposed to get rid of the truck parking on the hill (adjacent to Stevenson St.)and use it as employee parking. Looks like that isn’t going to happen.

I love the new Hwy, however there are NO STOP SIGNS FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING at Tide Point!!! Drivers just cruise on by with no regards to people crossing.
